Anti-Ageing Skin Care Products

It is not surprising that one of the largest markets in the world of health and beauty is anti-ageing skin care products; the growth in popularity is due in no small part to the fact that we are all living and working longer. This is done using skin care products that encourage the growth of the protein collagen which happens to be the main source of the protein used in the connective tissue of skin; with around a quarter of our skin protein being collagen, the importance of this substance has not gone unnoticed. Collagen is related to other natural substances which help to slow down the ageing process; known as antioxidants, they are the body's method of slowing down the ageing process.

Vitamin C is probably one of the better known anti-oxidants in use today but the debate about the daily quota required is ongoing. The problem with vitamin C derived skin care treatments is they can become oxidized when exposed to the atmosphere, often even before they are used.

More stable skin care treatments are now available that are almost as efficient and actually cost less to manufacture. These alternative products are not as effective as vitamin C but vitamin E and lipoic acid are anti-oxidants and are now being used.

The body uses vitamin E as an antioxidant and to increase the natural defense we have against sickness; there is some evidence to show it helps prevent diseases including cancer. Lipoic acid is found in every single human cell and helps provide energy; it is also known to combat the signs of aging very effectively by repairing skin damage caused by the aging process.

Phytochemicals form the other category of anti-ageing skin care products which are special chemicals that are extracted from plants with a variety of that are used in skin care today. Like lipoic acid, phytochemicals help reduce the occurrence of cancers; examples of these are:

*Cancer that attacks the Prostate
*Cancer that attacks the Breast
*Colon Cancer

All of which are on the increase globally.

It has also been discovered that there are anti-ageing benefits to vitamins B5, B6 and B12. This is a vast area that has the potential for many new anti-ageing skin care products and services in the future but research needs to continue. Gradually, new discoveries will be made to advance our understanding of the aging process; more long term effective methods will eventually be found to reverse or slow down the effects of aging, for example - HGH, but does HGH even work?

There may be many challenges still to overcome but in time scientists believe they will succeed in producing more effective anti-ageing skin care products that are less expensive and available to more people. At the moment though, science is still behind the field of natural anti-aging methods; man-made products may never replace those that are available naturally! Simple things that can make a difference in slowing the signs of ageing; these include physical activity, restful sleep, maintaining good dietary habits and removing stress from your life.
